FAQ

All too often people are over whelmed with the terms used and the choices they are asked to make when selecting a system.

Here’s our attempt to take the mystery out of it.

S.E.E.R. - Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating

This is like gas mileage in your car. The higher the "S.E.E.R” the less electricity the system uses. You pay more money up front, but the return on your investment pays for the difference. The minimum to date is 13.

A.F.U.E. - Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency

This is an efficiency rating also. The higher the A.F.U.E. the more heat goes into your house instead of out your roof.

Variable Speed
Just like the term implies the furnace has up to 3 different speeds that alternate back and forth depending on the temperature and run time in your home. This is considered a comfort and an efficiency feature, Variable Speed Systems remove up to 4 times the amount of humidity as a standard furnace. This allows you to be more comfortable at a higher thermostat setting.

Hybrid System
This is a 10 dollar word for a Dual Fuel System. (Also known as "Flex – Fuel). The outdoor unit is a heat pump. This is your primary source of heat. It is installed with an indoor gas furnace. A hybrid system gives you the best of both worlds. The economy of the heat pump when winter temperatures are moderate and the secondary heat of a gas furnace when temperatures are extreme.

Heat Pump

I realize that you probably know someone who had a heat pump and didn’t like it because the air felt "cool” on their skin. Guess What? They were right. A heat pump blows air out the vents that is in the 85º range. This feels cool on your 98.8˚ skin. There is a trade off. Do you want to stand around feeling of air all day or just be satisfied knowing that it will heat your house more economically? In the summertime, the heat pump is your air conditioner. It operates exactly like a traditional air conditioner.
